Director, Human Resources

Responsible for leading and directing routine functions for the Human Resources (HR) department including serving as a staff ‘go to’ resource for employee relations, interviewing and onboarding staff, administering benefits, and enforcing company policies and practices.  This position is considered to be a member of ELI’s Leadership Team and will attend LT meetings.

ELI has a virtual workforce, and the incumbent will primarily work from their home office. The incumbent must be located in the Atlanta area and will be expected to work from ELI’s office periodically and when needed for meetings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, coaching, facilitation, and direction to the HR Team including the HR Coordinator.
  • Aligns HR objectives with the businesses to drive organizational value; actively partners with leadership to drive continuous improvement towards ELI’s expected business results.
  • In support of ELI’s Central Challenge and business strategy, collaborates with the VP SS on developing and implementing strategic people initiatives and projects such as:
    • Redesigning an Employee Performance Program
    • Launching an Employee Skills Development Program
    • Launching a Leader Development Program
    • Co-creating and implementing HR-related DICE initiatives
    • Overseeing the Playbooks initiative for ELI staff
  • Partners with the leadership team to foster a culture of mutual trust and respect, maintaining a positive culture.
  • Leads continuous improvement of employee engagement efforts, providing consultation and recommendations to key stakeholders in the areas of talent management, employee relations, change management, performance management, safety, wellness, and other people initiatives.
  • Stays connected to the “pulse” of the employees; takes a proactive approach towards the improvement of identified opportunities.
  • Ensures processes and systems are in place for effective communication; maintain open and transparent lines of communication.
  • Develops and oversees internal controls and compliance for the HR department.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for staff concerns, requests, and feedback.
  • Provides HR business partnership support to leaders.
  • May develop and facilitate internal classes, workshops, and team building events.
  • Manages progressive disciplinary issues, including terminations.
  • Handles, with input from VP SS and Legal, sensitive circumstances such as investigating serious allegations of wrongdoing.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, leading to the equitable hiring of a qualified and diverse workforce.
  • Develops and updates job descriptions as needed.
  • Manages the implementation and/or development of HR programs and initiatives, including talent management, compensation, onboarding, benefits, retention and employee relations, in support of ELI’s success.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Responsible for administering the performance management program.
  • Develops and administers the merit increase process.
  • Creates a learning and development culture and implements initiatives that provide internal
    development opportunities for employees.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as it
    relates to labor, wage and hour, and employment laws.
  • Provides guidance regarding ELI’s policies; updates the handbook and other policies as needed.
  • Works with benefits broker and HR Coordinator regarding open enrollment, benefits
    administration, employee questions, and benefits billing.
  • Works with VP SS for 401K administration. May serve on the investment planning team.
  • Works closely with the Accounting and Payroll teams to ensure employee payroll, new hire, termination, and benefit changes are completed in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with the HR Coordinator to determine annual holiday schedules, early closings, etc.
  • Manages the relationships with all outsourced and 3rd party HR partnerships including but not limited to benefits, HR software, legal, staffing, coaching, and HR consulting.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides input to the VP SS during the annual planning and budgeting process.
  • Provides HR thought leadership and partnership with Learning Solutions regarding program content.
  • Represents HR on ELI committees and teams including but not limited to the Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity team.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of five years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • Experience working as a solo HR practitioner for a small to medium sized company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required.
  • Must be able to become certified in ELI’s Civil Treatment Workplace.
  • SHRM-CP or SPHR certification highly desired.
