Protected Categories
New York State Human Rights Law protects race, creed, color, national origin, age (18+), military status, sex (includes transgender), pregnancy, disability, genetic predisposition or carrier status, sexual orientation, arrest or conviction, marital status, and non-work activities which do not violate federal or state law.
Political orientation and gender identity and expression is also protected for state employees.
