Congress will soon address one of the most significant proposed labor law legislations in the last 50 years: the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). If passed, EFCA would greatly enhance employees’ abilities to unionize; furthermore, the bill would revoke states’ “Right to Work” status, which allows open employment of qualified non-union individuals. In the face of this proposed legislation, corporations must dedicate themselves to recognizing and remediating the employment issues that promote unionization in the first place.
ELI developed its union avoidance course, Strengthening Employee Relations™, to address the managerial responsibilities involved in the establishment and maintenance of positive employee relations. Managers need to recognize that promoting positive employee relations is a vital professional competency they are expected to demonstrate as leaders at the organization. Because the organization speaks through its leaders, managers must effectively articulate the company’s point of view and recognize how union issues impact the company.
