The Legal Record^® teaches managers how to prepare and analyze business records to support the investigative process.

Course Overview

This course immerses participants in a video dramatization of a single employment lawsuit whose details are progressively revealed. Hands-on and interactive, the course requires participants to investigate and document the company’s position using a model that is both easy to remember and simple to apply.

The Legal Record^® is available in both a four-hour version and a six-hour version.

The four-hour program focuses on documenting and supporting the investigative process. It includes the following topics:

• Significance of accurate documentation
• Fact vs. speculation
• Model for fact-finding
• Witness credibility
• Using existing documentation
• Creating new documentation

The six-hour program provides further investigation skills. It includes the information in the four-hour course and these additional topics:

• Internal investigator’s duties
• Gathering pertinent information
• Investigating workplace claims
• Interviewing and obtaining witness statements

Delivery Options

This is an instructor-led program that can be taught by ELI^®’s professional instructors or your ELI^®-certified instructors. The course is available in either a four- or six-hour format. The four-hour format is ideal for general managers and supervisors, while the six-hour format provides skills practice for Human Resource managers and others who conduct extensive investigations.
