Executive Forum Explores Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Corporate Culture Change

On June 22 ELI® convened business leaders at an Executive Forum in New York City to discuss the implications of the United States Sentencing Committee's proposed amendments to the federal sentencing guidelines. Participants shared their experiences and insights about the challenges organizations are facing today as well as some effective strategies and tactics for building legal, ethical operations.

Panelists from Pfizer, Liz Claiborne, and Deloitte & Touche discussed how recent developments are affecting the roles of HR, legal, and compliance representatives in their own organizations. Answering questions from the audience and moderator Steve Paskoff, they emphasized several common themes, including the importance of senior leadership support and involvement, the need to build accountability at all levels by aligning behavior with company values, and the fact that operating ethically goes beyond simply proving technical compliance with the law - it requires building a culture of integrity and respect.

After the panel, participants networked and shared best practices at several break-out roundtable sessions, covering topics such as program implementation strategies, measurement strategies and tools, e-learning benefits and challenges, and culture change.
